Cost Vs Value - An Anecdote
Years ago, my wife and I used to go to a Ceroc dance class every week. Afterwards we’d always eat at the same local restaurant.
The food was nice. We enjoyed ourselves. It was a lovely routine.
The strange thing is… I couldn’t tell you the name of that restaurant now if my life depended on it. I don’t remember the décor, I don’t remember what we ate, and I certainly don’t remember any particular evening.
It was pleasant.
It was also completely forgettable.
A few years later we stayed for one night at Le Manooir Aux Quat’ Saisons, Raymond Blanc’s two Michelin-starred hotel and restaurant.
We had the tasting menu with the accompanying wine flight. Every course felt like an event. Every tiny detail had clearly been thought about. By the end of the evening we staggered happily upstairs—slightly worse for wear, completely full, and grinning from ear to ear.
It wasn’t cheap.
In fact, even the tip made my eyes water.
But here’s the thing…
I’ve forgotten almost everything about the restaurant we visited week after week.
Yet I’ve revisited that single evening at Le Manoir countless times in my head. Every time I do, it makes me happy and makes me smile.
It cost more. But it was far better value.
When I worked in the corporate world, many office parties reminded me of that first restaurant.
Different venue.
Different catering.
Different DJ.
But essentially the same evening.
People eat, people drink, people dance… everyone has a pleasant enough time… and six months later hardly anyone remembers it.
Does that sound familiar?
Now imagine adding something genuinely extraordinary. Red Hat Magic.
A skilled close-up magician doesn’t just entertain people.
They bring people together.
They spark conversations.
They create moments of genuine astonishment.
People laugh together, try to work out the impossible together, and leave with stories they’ll still be telling long after the event.
“Do you remember when…”
“How on earth did he do that?”
Those are the moments people relive.
Those are the moments that become part of the memory of the event itself.
The experience costs a little more than simply booking a DJ and hoping for the best.
But now you’re in Le Manoir territory.
Not because of luxury for luxury’s sake, but because you’re creating something extraordinary, an event people will remember, talk about and smile about for years afterwards.
That’s the difference between cost…
…and value.
And the surprising part?
Creating that kind of memorable experience is probably far less expensive than you think.
If you’d like to create a better party, a magical event people will still be talking about years from now, I’d love to help.
